I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Deloitte Holland on a unique photo project, which involved capturing the life of their employee Nina in Hong Kong.

Our goal was to create a set of photos that showcased the beauty and vibrancy of this incredible city. In order to accomplish this, we decided to combine two elements: Nina’s daily life and the stunning scenery of Hong Kong.

How it worked out:

After consulting with Nina, I designed a route that would take us from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui—a route that would showcase the iconic Victoria Harbour via the most famous way of transportation in HK—the Star Ferry!

We began our journey in Central. From there, we hopped on board the ferry and crossed Victoria Harbour—the perfect backdrop for capturing beautiful shots. We ended our journey in Tsim Sha Tsui, where I snapped a few more photos before heading back.

All in all, this was an incredibly rewarding experience — it gave me the opportunity to capture some memorable images of Hong Kong for Nina and her company!

This project certainly showed me how important it is for companies like Deloitte Holland to document their employees’ lives in different cities around the world; not only does it provide valuable insight into their lifestyle, but it also allows us to appreciate all that these cities have to offer through photography.

Here’s hoping there will be many more projects like this one in the future!

What an awesome way to wrap up my year 2022!
I had my debut photo exhibition, and what’s better than doing it in Soho House!! 😄

A few months ago, I was privileged to be selected to be a part of the Soho House Hong Kong x OWN Academy mentorship program and got matched with my mentor Hina Wainwright (my biggest takeaway from her was to take the initiative to network with other people! Inspired by her, I’ve started my 52 weeks networking challenge!)

My exhibition “Slow” explores and expresses the connections between time and relationship where I showcased photo series that I created in the format of days, weeks, and years!

Being a headshot and branding photographer (sometimes also event photographer), I’ve adapted to the fast-paced work environment (namely to create a set of photos in great quality in a short span of time, sometimes talking about prompt delivery).

Having that said, I still try my very best to pertain my initial value in photography throughout my career — taking things slow to create more than just a beautiful photo. It is very important for me to understand the intention of the photo shoot and the stories behind the subjects/event so that I could add more dimensions to the photos. Time also allows me more space to capture more decisive moments.

In the years ahead, I aspire to embark on more significant projects – completing long-term projects with NGOs, Social Enterprises, and University researchers.

Consume: When you run out of ideas, you consume
1. See what your potential clients are doing
2. See what people in your field are doing
3. Read articles/books, listen to podcasts, and watch videos on the topic that you are interested in
4. Movies and TV series for aesthetics, for human interactions, for learning different cultures

Create: Create when you feel like it, but sometimes you should also push yourself to sit down and create and be consistent
1. Create what you are good at
2. But you can also create something that is outside your specialty just to get inspired
3. You may even incorporate something new into your current skills!
4. Create an online space where people can find you (whether it be IG or personal website)

Connect: Connect with like-minded people, but also connect with people whom you never thought of wanting to meet, you never know what you can learn from them!
1. Go to networking events
2. Connect with people on LinkedIn and other social platforms

Connect: Also connect your then and now to tell your own story and find people that resonate with you!
1. Share your struggles and how you overcome them
2. Share your wins and what you’ve done to get there

Contact: What’s the point if you have a list of contacts and never reach out? Contact them! Create your opportunities!
1. Send a nice message to your clients and see what they are up to
2. Add a personal note when adding new LinkedIn connections to build genuine relationships
3. Don’t hesitate to reach out to people for help
4. Also reach out to people when you think you can help them

At a networking event:
“Wow, your idea is awesome!”
“Let me check out your website!”
“I’d love to share it with everyone!”

A few moments later…(browsing the website, the design looks generic and I’ve seen this stock photo elsewhere!)

“hmm…that’s cool…haha” (maybe the startup is not as good as I expected, I can’t feel the connection between what they say they can deliver and what I see on their website…they are not matching…)

“Anyways, it was nice chatting with you! All the best to your business!” (it’s time to walk away and chat with some other people!)

**AWKWARD**

This is what will happen when you don’t have a website with intentional photos that pair hand in hand with your value proposition!

The first pitch deck is the one that you show to potential investors, the second pitch deck will be your website!

Don’t let your website be the reason to lose sales! it’s better to have no website than a bad one that leaves an unprofessional/still-in-progress/non-client-oriented impression…

About a week ago, I attended a panel discussion at a startup networking event.

There were four panelists on the stage, I can’t really tell who is who as I sat pretty far away from the stage and all of them were wearing a mask.

So my attention was naturally drawn to the person who had the best profile picture on the big screens next to them.

Here’re some thoughts:
1. Imagine you’re at a panel session as a speaker/panelist, and your photo is blown up on the screen… But your photo on the screen looks old, outdated, and pixelated… – Does it truly reflect you and your company? Can do better than that?

2. Your first impression counts! Especially when you are the face of the company!
Imagine a potential investor/client who’s sitting far away from the stage and they can’t see your body language up close.. All th樂威壯 ey have to rely on is the image on the large screen!

3. People are normally drawn to nice things. When you have a nice profile picture, it gives you the chance for people to pay attention to you a little bit longer (just think about how short our attention span is these days…). And when your speech is also amazing, you win their heart!
